Never is a Long Time   Leave a comment

You haven’t lived
If you haven’t spent
one night
all night
In some dive of a bar
A bar
you normally wouldn’t ever frequent
a bar
where nobody knows you
no-one
a bar
where you keep feeding quarters
into the old jukebox
listening to the soundtrack
of your life

Dancing alone
Or with your shadow
in the corner
No one takes any notice
Of a broken hearted lover
Who’s tears shine in the light
from the neon sign
above the bar
Blue Moon
Blue tears

Drinking
until the dawn
New day light
The break of day
The heart break
And the chasers and beer
might scare the hurt away
chase away the pain
but only for a while

The bartender keeps his thoughts to himself
Knows when to give
or keep
his advice to himself
Some people are past helping anyway
So he just continues to clean the same glass
Over and over
Looking like he is busy
So no-one will disturb him
His thoughts
His own heartache

He finally puts the glass back
on the shelf
As you play the same song
Over and over
It was your song
It will always be your song
Whenever you hear it
It will remind you
Remind you to forget

You’re left alone
Like the glass
on the shelf
You tell yourself
It’s all just a bad dream
More like a nightmare
That came out of nowhere
You thought it was forever
You should have known better
You should have known
that
nothing
is forever
it might as well have been for never
But never is a long time too
Never is a long time
